When you have made the important decision that a Russian Blue kitten or cat is what you truly want to own you, and you know you can agree with the adoption terms and conditions set forth here; contact us, and we will be happy to discuss the possibilities with you Private Treaty. Each perspective adopting home will be treated with respect and confidentiality. We believe in good-faith practices. Below we have outlined some of the Questions and answers that are considered when adopting our cats or kittens. The conditions, requirements and terms set forth in the final contract agreement for the adoption of a HeatherWynd Russian Blue cat or kitten will be strictly adhered to for the welfare of the kitten or cat that is being considered for adopted.
Our primary concern is that our Russian Blue kittens and cats go to forever homes; where kindness and gentle love will be given to them. If for some reason beyond your control, you must give your Russian Blue up, we request that you call us so we may rehome the cat. Under no circumstances should you take a HeatherWynd Russian Blue kitten or cat to an animal rescue group, animal shelter, or a Humane Society type organization.
Please read the following information carefully to ensure that you are willing to make the required commitments we expect of an adopting home. Our Russian Blue's must receive the same respect and loving care as a family member in their new adopting homes that they are used to from us. They have been raised and socialized since their birth and are treated as family members. Thank You for taking the time to read through this information.
3. The new adopting owner agrees to NEVER have this kitten or cat declawed, and/or have a flexor tendonectomy procedure performed on it.
A brief explanation of the de-clawing and flexor tendonectomy procedures:
Besides being extremely painful to your pet companion, many veterinarians are beginning to ban both of these procedures in their practices, knowing how inhumane they are and the impact it can have on the kitten or cat.
De-clawing requires the complete amputation of the first joint that the claw is attached to and is extremely painful, easily infected and often needs to have additional surgeries to get it done right. Some cats have died from the complications of this procedure, others have had complete psychological break downs, behavior and personality changes; even aggressive and violet tendencies can occur.
The same side-effects often occur after what some veterinarians claim is a lesser complicated procedure; the flexor tendonectomy. The flexor tendonectomy is a deep severing of the tendon behind the claw that is responsible for the extension and retraction of the cat's claws. This procedure renders their claws non-functional. The owner will still need to clip their claws every couple of weeks or take them to the vet to have it done so that they do not become painfully overgrown. It is senseless to have such procedures performed that harm and inflict pain on your loving pet companion, both physically and psychologically.
There are many ways to re-direct your kitten or cat's instinct to scratch so they do not damage furniture and carpets; by giving them their own toys, scratch posts and scratch objects designed for cats to use. These items can be purchased from many pet stores and on-line sites.
4. The new owner/purchaser agrees to have the kitten neutered or spayed (altered) at the appropriate age: 6 months for females and 5-9 months for males or as recommended by your veterinarian. This kitten or cat will not be used for stud service or as a breeding cat.
5. The new owner/purchaser agrees to send a neuter/spay certificate for proof of altering from their veterinarian to the breeder/seller. Upon receipt of the proof of altering the breeder/seller will release the kitten's application for CFA registration to the new owner/purchaser. The new owner/purchaser will name the kitten/cat and agrees to register it with CFA and pay the required fees, which are inexpensive and keeps the registration records accurate for the beautiful Russian Blue breed.
6. The new owner/purchaser will read, understand and agree with the entire content of the contract agreement and make payment in full upon signature of the contract agreement.
8. Above all else the new owner/purchaser agrees to provide a loving and safe home and environment to the new kitten/cat. If for some reason you are not able to keep this kitten/cat HeatherWynd will take it back, NEVER send it to an animal shelter or rescue agency.
Refunds will only be made when and if a new home is obtained for the kitten/cat at a portion of the original payment, dependant on the terms, conditions and expenses of the new home and owners and/or purchasers. You will be responsible for the required shipping and veterinarian fees to return the kitten or cat to us. We reserve the right to make refunds and the amount, if any refund, at our discretion.
The main concern is that the kitten or cat gets the best possible arrangement, even if we have to keep it until and if we can locate a new home for it. We do not want a HeatherWynd kitten or cat to ever become abandoned or unwanted and we understand that circumstances sometimes warrant the action to re-home your pet companion. So you must agree to return it to us for re-homing if you are unable to find it a suitable home to qualify for adoption. We would also like the new home to have the information they need to contact us in case the need should arise for them too. We are considerate in all cases that concern the welfare of the cat or kitten.
9. We reserve the right to refuse adoption of a kitten or cat at our own discretion and without explanation.
How to determine kitten adoption availability?
Please contact us directly to check on our kitten or cat availability. Do not depend on our web site to reflect the availability. It is best to contact us, as availability can change from month to month; email is best, but feel free to call us. If no kittens/cats are available you may request to be placed on our wait list; however, it will be your responsibility to keep in contact with us periodically.
What are the terms of the contract agreement?
The terms of the actual contract agreement are between the purchaser and breeder. The requirements and conditions set within this page are also included as terms of the contract agreement. Each contract agreement will be made with the individual adopting home's set of circumstances. Example: Shipped or pick-ed up.
What warranty do you offer ?
The new owner is encouraged to take the kitten or cat to a veterinarian within 3 days of receipt to have its health checked. If at that time, this kitten or cat is found to have a health issue; the breeder will take the kitten or cat back and refund the purchase price, or if so desired and available will replace it with another kitten or cat. The kitten or cat must be treated by a licensed veterinarian, and the new owner must provide the veterinarian's signed documentation with complete diagnosis including test results to the breeder. It will be up to the new owner whether the condition is severe enough to return the cat or kitten, or if they decide to keep the kitten or cat as it is, at this time.
NOTE: The breeder/seller does not assume any veterinary or shipping costs incurred by the new owner/purchaser.
What is consider pet quality ?
We always breed for show quality; show quality kittens and cats make great pets too. Sometimes a show quality conformed kitten or cat will just not like to be shown. Russian Blues are generally a shy breed, and it really takes a very out-going individual to deal with the show environment.
The term pet quality is subjective and it does not mean that the cat or kitten is not of high quality. The show world is very competitive and the slightest deviation from the absolute standard is grounds to not be of show quality.
Some examples are: The ears may be set on the head at the wrong angle, they may be slightly too small, their eyes may not be green enough, the body size may be too large for the standard, the tail may have a kink, the silver tipping may not be intense enough, the fur may not be dense enough. These are only a few of the many many reasons a cat may not be considered a show cat. But when all else is beautiful they will still need that not-so-shy, out-going, friendly to strangers disposition to be a true show cat.
All of our kittens are loving and purry babies, as we try to socialize them as much as we can so that they can make a smooth transition to their new homes. We have had owners return for additional kittens to add to their families, which always makes us feel terrific and lets us know we are doing a good job with our breeding.
What age are they ready to adopt and what health information is supplied?
Our kittens are ready for their news homes between 3 and 1/2 to 4 months of age. They need to be old enough that their vaccinations will have taken effect before they travel to ensure they are protected.
We provide a health record that covers vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, bathing, and any other information that pertains to your particular kitten or cat. You will also be provided with a certificate of health from our veterinarian. We have a health examination for all of our kittens and cats just prior to their departure to their new home.
NOTES: All kittens receive their 1st and 2nd vaccinations at 9 and 12 weeks of age and must be administered thereafter once yearly. All of our cats are wormed, treated for fleas and parasites regularly and are on a strict schedule.
Do you ship your cats and kittens and how and and what is the cost ?
We prefer that our kittens be picked up, but we do ship on Alaska or Continental airlines. Shipping fees are the responsibility of the new owner and will vary depending on the location of delivery. We will make the travel arrangements and take the kitten or cat to the airport for shipment. The cost within the U.S. is usually under $175.00. We will discuss shipping arrangements with you well before the contract is completed.
Should we obtain insurance for our new kitten or cat and how ?
Prior to pick-up and/or transfer to the new adopting owners you may want to obtain health and mortality insurance. We encourage insurance be purchased and maintained for your new kitten or cat; it is quite reasonable, but this is your decision; the kitten or cat is your sole responsibility once it leaves our possession. See the link pages for a link to a list of pet insurance carriers. We do not endorse any specific agency; that is the sole choice of the adopting owner.
